Confessions of a Pastor's Wife - Kathryn Bonner - Life Purpose Christian Coaching

Chapter 1: Discovering God

Finding myself pregnant and unmarried places me in a very scary place emotionally. Life is a series of discoveries, of new beginnings, young in my faith journey, the process of discovery from a child into young adulthood.

Chapter 2: Learning to drive at age 32!

Becoming a blended family, I was lax in my commitment, feeling overwhelmed at the work of marriage. Bruce married me at the age of 32 and he equated becoming a husband & a Step-Dad to learning how to drive, and instantly pulling into the intersections of Highways 59 & 610 in Houston, (which is the 3rd busiest intersection in the nation) during rush hour!

Chapter 3: Calling it quits ~ Bruce leaves his career to pursue His calling

I think that so many times people think that "if God has called them to something, then all the doors should swing wide open for them, thinking everything should fall right into place, no obstacles should they have to climb.  It should be easy street.  If not, then they are quick to let it go and say something like, "Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be; otherwise we wouldn't have any of the struggle.  God would just remove all the obstacles in order for us to go for it." Let me just say this; if God has called you, He has called you.  Bottom line... He is committed to transforming you along the way...

Chapter 4: Seminary years absolute drought

The Famine years and Faith; the seminary was explicit in telling all of the seminarians and their families that if we anticipated the seminary to be our source or place for spiritual growth we were sadly mistaken.  We didn’t anticipate the kind of thirst that would occur and in all places - at seminary!  Where was my faith?  Was it real?  Does God test us to make us stronger?  Is there a reason for this?  Do you hear me Lord?

Chapter 5: How did Paula know?

Why God do you continue to place Paula in my life?  I don’t even like her! Everyone around me including my best friends seemed blinded to the fact that my faith was faltering.  Paula knew, she saw in my eyes, what she had seen in her own eyes many times.

Chapter 6: Tuesday night feedings

Our church family brought meals every Tues evening and it always seemed to multiply in supply like the fishes and the loaves.  We not only gained physical and financial nourishment but spiritual nourishment as well.

Chapter 7: Struggle ~ Take it or Leave it?

Living (fighting) in the boxing ring of faith – feeling beaten, bruised, and battered. Waiting for the bell to ring so that we could finally sit on the corner stool, take a quick breather and get back out there.  We were exhausted and made the decision to give up on seminary, until we met with our dear loving Bishop Alard…

Chapter 8: So this is what walking by faith is!

Learning to replace fears with faith.  Fear is the opposite of faith.  Failure is never striving to do what you recognize in your heart of hearts God is calling you to do!

Chapter 9: We want to call him Dad

My daughters choose to call Bruce “Dad” after we’d been married four years. Asking the questions regarding the meaning behind that desire, the questions of how to handle this with their biological father.  Recognizing how anger could cause hurt by way of an angry tongue.

Chapter 10: The Navajo mission trip, who was it really for?

Drawing living water from the well; literally as well as spiritually.  We went on this trip expecting to teach and we were the ones taught!  Learning while teaching is always the way God orchestrates His plan!

Chapter 11: Knowing God through the study of His Word

Who are you God?  One of the greatest gifts my girlfriends gave me was the invitation to embark upon the seven year journey, a seven year course of BSF, “Bible Study Fellowship”.  Experiencing and knowing God through the study of His Word.

Chapter 12: The Bug Truck

Bruce took on a part time job as an exterminator during seminary to aid with the financial burden.  Learning to be humble in a “cool crazed world.”  Our daughters were too cool to be driven to school in the bug truck.  – The bug truck was definitely not cool but did the trick for finances.
